Big Ugly Budget Bill

The Big (Ugly) Budget Bill is in the Senate for deliberation.  It is disastrous for the deficit, for people who use Obamacare, and for those who need Medicaid and SNAP.  Please contact the office of our US Senators to ask them to stand up for Texans against the Big Beautiful Bill!  This should take just a couple of minutes of your time:  simply follow one of the below scripts if you’d like. The staffer should tally your call and pass your message on; no need for any conversation besides that.

Examples:

-My name is John and I’m a voter in Cibolo, 78108.  I’m calling to urge [Sen Cruz or Cornyn] to oppose the unprecedented SNAP cuts and expansion of SNAP work requirements included in H.R.1. SNAP is not a handout, it's a hand up for people, especially children, who are suffering from poverty and hunger.  Thank you for your time and consideration.

-I’m from ZIP 78154 and I'm calling to urge [Sen Cruz or Cornyn] to oppose H.R. 1, the budget reconciliation bill. This bill will cause millions of people on Medicaid to lose access to health care while making Medicaid more expensive and complex to administer. I am also deeply concerned about the CBO analysis showing that paying for wealthy people's tax cuts would lead to $500 billion in cuts to Medicare.  This legislation will cut off millions of people from needed health care and will destroy lives and local economies, all while increasing the deficit by trillions.  Thank you for passing this message to the Senator.

-Hi, my name is Mary and I’m a constituent from Seguin, 78155.  I’m calling to urge [Sen Cruz or Cornyn] to oppose H.R. 1, the House budget reconciliation bill, and its harmful cuts to vital government programs.

[OPTIONAL]: Specifically, I’m very concerned about… [PICK 1-3 budget provisions]
the massive increase in the federal deficit, (and)
the cuts to student aid, (and)
the cuts to federal worker retirement benefits, (and)
the defunding of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, (and)
the roll back of the Inflation Reduction Act's urgent climate-focused programs, (and)
the elimination of gun silencer taxes, (and)
the remittance tax on immigrants, (and)
the partisan attack on federal regulations.
Congress should pass a fair and responsible budget that helps working families and communities, not one that slashes our benefits to fund tax cuts for the wealthy.  Thank you for your time and consideration.
